Action against police for using photos publicly without permission

05-Jun-2023 (In Civil Law)
I met with the traffic police, and paid challan behalf of my relative, who was riding a bike without following traffic rules. The police asked to pay the fine and took a group photo in which 2 police officers, the accused and myself were present. The police used the group photo and circulated the message in Whatsapp groups and published in Newspapers. I am not comfortable with publicity. Can I take any action against the police since , they used my photo in media without my permission.

The Identification of Prisoners Act of 1920 governs the taking of photographs of people by police to be used for law enforcement. The Identification of Prisoners Act, 1920, prohibits the taking of photographs by police of any person, except for those who are arrested or convicted. It also prohibits sharing of such photos with other law enforcement agencies.
