Is it necessary to get traditionally married for registration

11-Apr-2023 (In Civil Law)
Hello, I would like to know if it is necessary to be traditionally married before hand and show proof of the same before undergoing register marriage under Special Marriage Act. This is because we don't intend to traditionally marriage but to just do a register marriage since my partner is a foreigner with different culture. Thanks

You can marry under the Special Marriage Act only. You cannot marry traditionally, if the partner is not a Hindu. You have to give Notice of Intended marriage in the Registrar's office and after 30 days notice, you can be married under Special Marriage Act. If you are in Chennai, I can assist you in get the marriage done under the Special Marriage Act. Kindly contact me for any further assistance.
