Sister in law threatening to file police complaint

20-Aug-2023 (In Family Law)
Due to pandemic and WOrk from home situation I have shifted to my parents home where I’m living with parents brother and sister in law. There’s always dispute between sister in law n family and now as I’m here she keeps me dragging in disputes n makes me difficult to work by creating dramas and if I ask why she threatens me that she will file a police complaint, now being girl and looking at the pandemic situation I’m not able to move to my work location and needs to stay with my parents until and unless I get married. But with constant threats it has become difficult to live here with my parents. Kindly suggest what I can do in this matter to safeguard my rights and live peacefully untill I find alternatives.

Sorry to know about your situation. As of now it is better for you to ignore her threats and let your parents and brother handle her. Till you are living together she won't take a legal step and if you go legal then she would also go legal which would create difficulties...

Hello
Advocate Minakshi Ovhal here,
your mother can also file Domestic violence  case against her daughter in law for her abuisve behaviour and seek a protection order against her
You also can lodge a complaint against her for her continuous mental tortures by making false allegations and behaving violently with you and your family members.
your brother should shift to rented accommodation away from his parents and you.
your brother can file for divorce on grounds of mental cruelty if situation does not improve.
thank you.

Hello,
You can file an NC with the local police station wherein your sister in law will be called and will be given a warning. If the harassment still continues, you can file a private case for harassment in local court and attach your NC with it.
