Can a client sue if no agreement done only email conversation exists

22-Jul-2023 (In Startup Law)
I started working for this client to develop an e-commerce website and got advance of RS 45,000 from 2,45,000 INR (total project amount). We designed and developed the front-end and once starting backend we were not able to continue the work., Now we have returned the advance 45,000 and there was no agreement signed by us except for emails. Now we want to terminate this project from our end. My query is can they go legal and sue my business?

Emails have been held to be valid evidence as per the Evidence Act. They are digital documents. Therefore, if existence of a valid contract for work between the two of you can be determined from the said emails the client has the right to sue for specific performance based on the terms of your contract.
