Will new surname due to marriage create problem for higher study?

20-Jun-2023 (In Civil Law)
Before marriage my full name was . After marriage , I have changed my surname to  as per my husband's surname. My marriage is registered according to HINDU marriage act. In my marriage certificate my name is mentioned as "SUDIPTA ROY nee GHOSH" . In my new voter card , PAN card ,Aadhaar card , I have changed my name as Sudipta ROY with help of marriage certificate. But all my academic documents (till date) has my maiden name . 1)Is marriage certificate sufficient to legalize and recognize the change of my surname (due to marriage) ? 2) If I want to pursue higher study what is correct way to write my name - The changed name (Sudipta Roy) OR the old name (Sudipta Ghosh) as per the previous academic record? 3) Do I need to change my surname in previous academic certificates issued by C.G. Board? 4) For Higher study If I want to go abroad with my new name ,but with academic certificates with previous surname , will it create any problem?

Madam, the best thing we would suggest to you is get an affidavit done from the judicial magistrate first class to the effect that you, with your first name and name after marriage is one and the same person. That will be concrete proof and you will not have any future problems regarding your name before marriage and after marriage. Please contact for more details.

it is upto you which name you wanted to adopt. It is better to have the name as per your marriage certificate and for higher study there is no problem if you will use the surname of your in laws house. So it is up to you how you will act. And if you wanted to go abroad in that event you are in need of passport and for the passport you have to submit your marriage certificate where your name is appearing is ROY hence it is advisable to use the name accordingly.

No it will not , it depends of what name you have signed as in the marriage certificate, in case you have not got your marriage registered under Hindu Marriage Act then you can use your maiden name. It is important that while filling up any form you have not suppressed any facts like you are married or not there is no mandate that you have to use the surname of your matrimonial side.

It is in culture in Hindu that after marriage surname of wife is changed according to husband's surname.but off course this creates problems so first of all there should not be charged in the name of academic record to avoid problems but here some documents are prepared according to marriage and all of us are aware with the facts so you may produce before any competent authority regarding your problem they will realise but you have to try to make all the relevant documents having same surname either of before marriage or after marriage
