If he was not filed divorce petition yet, file a domestic violence case against him and his mother. In the petition ask for return of articles, money, ornaments etc. In the petition you can also ask for shared house or residence right and good amount of maintenance. In domestic violence case court will pass an interim injection order restraing your husband or in laws from physically, verbally or mentally abusing you. File the at the earliest

There are several grounds for divorce. For mental cruelty your husband has to prove it with valid evidence before the courts of law. Since you have a genuine reason you can very well contest or defend the case and win over his divorce petition. Pl contact me if you need detailed advice. Thank you.
