Alimony is a process where the wife demands her rights over the property of the husband. In India, there is still no concept of Prenups, as in US or other countries. So, they are entitled to alimony. However, if you have proof of adultery, it gives you a good ground to obtain divorce and also refuse to pay any hefty amount as alimony.
