Query regarding Maintenance charges for flats in a society

Taken possession of a flat but due to some personal problems not shifted to the said flat and kept under lock and key. Now after shifting, the society members are demanding the total arrears of the maintenance charges for four years. Our version is not applicable as we have not utilised the services and there was no provision in the arbitrary dececion of maintenance charges without any concession for for vacant period. Kindly advise for the legal stand. Thanks & regards…

Yes it is not Compulsory to pay maintenance in the period of vacant.
Issue notice to the society which should be very strong if not settled in that you have to file case.
