How to recover a sum of 10000/- from a person who was a friend?

My friend used my credit card for a transaction of around 10000/- and promised to pay back within a week. It's been 3 months now and for the last 1 month he isn't answering my calls nor replying to my messages. I was told by a lawyer that the cost of sending a letter alone will cost as the same amount of recovery. Is there any other way that will help me get my money? Please help
hello in receipt of your query you can file a civil recovery Suit against your friend but before that show a legal recovery notice to your friend and there after immediately file money recovery Suit against friend
