Can college charge tuition fee when I am not attending any classes
17-Mar-2023 (In Civil Law)
Hello Sir/Madam, I have been selected for student exchange programme, abroad from my existing private college for one semester. The rules suggest that my exisiting college would need full payment of Rs. 1,23,500/- (per sem) and also advance payment for next semester, (additional 1,23,500/-) Also, the semester I will be taking abroad is fully self financed which requires me to pay the foreign university as well for one semester. I fail to understand that why am I paying my existing college the tuition fees when I am not even attending classes. Also to mention, that the college offered a consession of only 25% fees, which has absolutely no use. Is it legal to obtain tuition fees in Private colleges in India this way without having to witness any class, and also bearing self expenses for the exchange programme? Please guide me through this query
Private colleges are well within their rights to decide their fees structure. You are attending a foreign college for a semester under student exchange scheme. You should have inquire from your college about same well in advance before opting for exchange scheme. You are still a student of same college and you will be pursuing your remaining semester after returning from student exchange scheme. Your college is well within its right to charge fees appropriately. It was your duty to ascertain all facts before opting for such scheme.
