Section 5 of the Hindu Marriage Act bans, among other things, marriage between a brother and sister, uncle and niece, aunt and nephew, or children of brother and sister or of two brothers or of two sisters. The marriage is void, unless the custom of the community permits it.

Look under Hindu Marriage Act there is a specific section i.e., Section 5(iv) treated relating to a condition of valid marriage, which is "Beyond prohibited degree". This clause prohibits marriage between persons who are within the prohibited degrees of relationship with each other.
Here cousin sister means sister's daughter. and it is according to this section under a prohibited decree. Some others are also prohibited decree like :- brother's daughter, father's sister, mother's sister, father's sister's daughter, father's brother's daughter, mother's sister's daughter, mother's brother's daughter etc.,.
