Can a US person complaint against Indian person

I am in situation where a US person and his lawyer is threatening me and asking for paying them a very large amount because I stopped working for them since they are not paying me for last 4 months, I did sign a contract with them and in that contract I agree to abide by US laws , but really US laws going to apply on me? , as I live in Kolkata , India , that US person lawer asking for go to american arbitration association and defend myself , but their charge is too high and I can't pay, what to do ?
Yes it can apply on you. As per them you have done breach of contract and it is punishable by U.s as well as Indian law .Contact a lawyer . .
