Legal implication of changiing name in electric bill

22-Sep-2023 (In Property Law)
I am a hindu female,53 years old.My father passed away with out making a will.My elder brother and I filled a form called Bahandari form , in Ahmedabad ,to transfer the house in both our names. Now he wants to change the electric bill to his name only from my father's name. He has sent me a form to give my no objection for it. Here's my question: 1) In case he gets his name on electric bill ,does it have any legal implications, will it mean that I have agreed to give the house away to him. 2) if he asks me to do the same for property tax bill , should I refuse, will it affect my share or right over the said property.

Assuming you are the legal heir you need to first make sure that the property has been transferred in your name. Check the records from the registry, does it display your name?

I suggest you should keep your name for tax and electricity bill. I assume you trust him as he is your brother however precautions are always better than cure.

Also in future god forbid but if there is any dispute regarding ownership of the suit property, his stand will be a bit stronger before the court since he is paying all the bills. However it entirely depends on facts and circumstances during that time but regardless keep your name in the bill and pay certain bills as and when mutually decided betwen you and your brother.

I need to understand the matter in depth to give you a more satisfactory answer.
