Can trainees be made to do all the work at just rs.1000

17-Aug-2023 (In Labour & Service Law)
One of my relative has gone to a 5 star hotel as a trainee in hospitality management, their whole batch is being made to work like full time staff but by paying only rs 1000 per month. Is this practice legal? are there any minimum wage in India? please let me know.

This is a unfair labour practice.A trainee unless covered under the Apprentice's Act can not claim for statutory rates of stipend. If practically possible,it is advisable to seek intervention of Local A L C.In such case there is a possibility of inviting displeasure of the management and chances of discontinuance of the current assignment.therefore search for better option and move away.
