SECTION 338 IPC - Indian Penal Code - Causing grievous hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others

As per new Indian Criminal law, IPC Section 338 has been replaced with BNS Section 125 with effect from July 1, 2024.
(Imprisonment is increased from two years to three years and fine is increased from one thousand to ten thousand rupees.)

Whoever causes grievous hurt to any person by doing any act so rashly or negligently as to endanger human life, or the personal safety of others, shall be punished with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to two years, or with fine which may extend to one thousand rupees, or with both.



IPC 338 in Simple Words

Section 338 of the Indian Penal Code states that if someone causes serious injuries to another person by acting recklessly or negligently, endangering human life or others' safety, they can be punished with imprisonment for up to two years, or a fine of up to one thousand rupees, or both.
