Can I sue my wife for mental torture?she left me within 2 months after marriage. Marriage is unconsummated.Now she demands 5 lac from me. She earns around 40000 more than me. Can I sue her for mental torture?Am I eligible to ask compensation?

the law of torts doesnt apply in India so you can't legally sue her. but you have various other remedies against her which include divorce as well as to get efficacious remedy without having to divorce your wife.

You have a fit case for filing a case against your wife. As you have explained that the marriage has not been consumated and furthermore she has left the matrimonial home. You have ample measures to put pressure on her at Court by instituting a petition for restitution where the Court will direct her to return home. She cannot seek divorce from you for the period of one year since the marriage has elapsed.

This is very unfortunate end of such unconsummated matrimonial within very short time and once it is rooted out can not be resettled. Hence , better to opt for be separate in such short of span of end of relationship.
She legally can not demand for Alimony, if you have confirm and paper proof, eg Salary slip. Yes you may opt filing u/s10 -Judicial Separation at this earlier breakup till 1 year has not passed or Mutual divorce.
