Married at age of 17

08-Sep-2023 (In Divorce Law)
My friend got married in may, 2018. She was 20 when she got marrried but, according to her Adhar card she was just 17 years old. Is her marriage legal? If not, would she require to get divorce if she wanted to leave her husband?

You can get a Medical test which ascertain the Age of a Person to prove that the age of your friend was legal.
Though your friend want to take a Divorce and as per her I'd proof her age is 17 then the Mairriage it self is void hence she is not required to take Divorce because her Mairriage is not valid under the eyes of Law

This is my response to you:
1. If her birth certificate has a legal age then no problem;
2. Make the changes in aadhar card;
3. If she is genuinely 17 then she has to annul the marriage;
4. Consult a local lawyer with your issue.

Dear querist, As per your query you have mentioned about the age of your friend being 20 years old when she got married, which is not a legal age for marriage to Girl in India, therefore it is said to be illegal

Hello,

It solely depends the way the marriage was solemnised, at times if marriage is done based on assumption the parties are major the marriage is valid. The marriage is voidable and not illegal if it was done with consent. You may connect if you need further clarification.
