Sole custody of US born 2 year old daughter with mother in India

Our daughter was born in the US and holds an American passport and OCI card. As I have a job in India, my husband left us both here and went back to US to work. Now he refuses have any relationship with me. I don't even know his current whereabouts. I pleaded my parents -in-law for intervention and help but they denied any responsibility towards this issue. I filed a complaint against him for emotional abuse and for leaving us and against his parents for domestic abuse. He has not responded to the summons and his parents deny knowledge of him. How do I make sure that he does not file for custody of my daughter in the USA? What measures do I need to take to keep my daughter with me? Please advise.
