Hi, You may file a Complaint with Insurance Ombudsman. In case your grievances are still not resolved, you may also file a consumer complaint with Hon'ble Consumer Forum. The jurisdiction is to be kept in mind while filing both the complaints.

Q: How to claim compensation from an airline for not letting me board

On 26th of Feb Air India denied me boarding on a confirmed ticket on a flight to Paris, CDg from IGI. I was given the excuse that I didn't do a web check in but the flight was overbooked. Since it was a business trip and travelling was necessary I requested an alternative for the same day but no same day flights options were availed to me. For five hours I ran from pillar to post but no one showed any interested in resolving my issue lest even offer a glass of water. I took the ticket for next day as no options were open. AI gave me an accommodation at a third grade hotel despite promising a 5 star suit as compensation for my troubles. At the hotel I checked with my employer and I was told to not make the trip as I missed the crucial meeting. I filled a case at consumer forum and later in consumer court. the case is currently in mediation. I asked for a comp. of 10 lakh but AI is not offering above 25000. I want to know how strong is my case. Thanks for your time & guidance.

Advocate Nidhi Singh answered
Hi,Your case is strong and you've acted appropriately. Its a settled legal principle that not permitting a passenger who is holding a confirmed ticket to board a flight amounts to deficiency in service on part of the Airline. To substantiate I would like to inform you about a case which has been decided only in April, 2018, Wherein the apex consumer commission,NCDRC has asked the airline to pay a compensation of 4lakh each to 3passangers for causing inconvenience and harassment to them by denying boarding on a paris-delhi flight.
