Can In laws ask for gifts received in marriage

16-May-2023 (In Family Law)
We are living overseas and my in laws are asking for jewellery and other stuff given in Marraige. At the time of Marraige I and my husband had a mutual word that jewellery from my mothers side will remain with them and from I laws side will remain with my in laws. In the name of customs and traditions and ethics they are asking everything. As per them my husband should keep everything. and it should go in joint locker. Can they ask for my jewellery and everything else given in Marraige ?

The gifts received by you as a gift in your marriage is your property and you have complete right over it. Legally your in-laws cannot ask for the gifts that you received in your marriage.

No they cannot ask for your ornaments and jewelry, your stridhan is only yours , so you are only entitled for the custody the same. therefore if somebody ask your stridhan you are not suppose to handover. Further you have legal remedy to restrain them to take your stridhan from you.
