The short answer to this question is yes you can claim maintenance for your children from your in laws who are successors to your husband's estate. It should not be a problem at all. I suggest that you move as quickly as possible in this regard.

Dear Mam,

You can certainly claim maintenance under section 18 of hindu adoption and maintenance act from your inlays. This is the only provision for a widow to claim maintenance from her in laws after her husband's death.

you may be allowed to claim for maintenance only if your in - laws are enjoying the fruits from the share of your husband's self acquired property. A recent judgement has enlarged the scope of maintenance if your husband property is enjoyed by other family members.
