Marriage under Special Marriage act. How to go ahead ?

I am a Muslim boy and want to get married to a Hindu girl under Special Marriage act.I had couple of questions. What will be the religion of the children legally ? Can we register himher as atheist or no religion ? If we can't do it , what other options do we have ? How important is a child's religion in India ? What is advisable for us ?

yes a person from any religion get marriage under special marriage act 1954 . As you asked about the religion of children ,it depends on the children's upbringing with which religion had been done .Yes you can but when child don't have faith in any religion.

you can name your child and give him any religion of your choice no one will bother for this in india it is used to give reservations and further marriage of your child otherwise its good for nothing you just have to give him any religion you think is appropriate, legally the children will carry his/her father`s name and hence the child would be said of the same religion of your`s.

in special marriage act if you solemnized your marriage both the parties no need to convert his/her religion, but it is upon you to decide your child adopt hindu or muslim religion or when your child attend the age of majority 18 years he can adopts his own religion by his free consent, still in India there is no legally provision of atheist.
