Promotion of racism via advertisement

07-Oct-2023 (In Civil Law)
I'm not sure about the racism laws in India, but recently I have observed that fairness cream advertisements blatantly state that please use our fairness cream to become handsome, else girls will never fall in love with you. I am deeply offended by such statements made by the advertisements.Link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J4abnBU9DyI . There are many such examples. Big celebrities promoting such racist remarks create a deep impression and creates further shunting of dark skinned people among whites(who think themselves superior/more beautiful/only people eligible to attract people from opposite sex). So my question is, is this correct? Can nothing be done to correct this?

As of now there is no law to support your question.

New sections 153C and 509A in Indian Penal Code (IPC) will be introduced in the law to take the matters of racial discrimination more seriously.

Under the proposed section 153C, any words, both spoken and written, or signs attempting to discriminate against individuals on the basis of race, or indulging in any activity intended to use criminal force or violence against a particular race will be a non-bailable offence punishable with imprisonment up to five years and a fine.

In addition to this, Section 509A will make any word, gesture or act intended to insult a member of a particular race lead to imprisonment that may extend to three years with a fine.
