The facts mentioned are very brief. It needs to be detailed. Anyways, you can choose any of the following 2 options:
1) File a civil suit for recovery of Rs. 2 lacs against that person;
2) If the cheques have bounced, then you can opt for proceedings under section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act.

You can file a case under 138 NI act, which will help you recover your money quickly for which firstly you need to send a legal demand notice. You can also file a civil recovery suit, with which you will also be able to recover the interest.

you may present the cheques to the bank within 3 months of date which it bears. If the Cheque returns dishonoured your advocate will send a notice to drawer of the Cheque within 30 days of dishonour and if the drawer doesn't pay you the Cheque amount within 15 days of receipt of legal notice you may file a criminal complaint case under section 138 Negotiable Instruments Act. You may also file a civil recovery suit under Order 37 CPC. For further query revert me.

Hi Sir, we can firstly send a legal notice and can further initiate the legal process by filing a complaint under section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881. The rest can be discussed over the meeting.
