Unable to pay Rent during lockdown but owner want us to pay full rent.

15-May-2023 (In Landlord/Tenant Law)
I just wanted to ask about the rental issue here. I have a startup. we do not have an office also. During this lock down we don't have any source of income. Zero. It is very difficult for us to pay rent. Every where on internet i can read that government is saying not to take rent from students and labourers. What about us? What to do. Our owner still want us to pay full rent. We agreed to even give half of the rent each month till lockdown but they do not agree to that too. They want full rent and its very difficult for us to pay full.

See as per latest judgment of Hon'ble Delhi High Court , Tenants cannot be exempted from paying the rent in lockdown period.
However your landlord cannot evict you on non-payment of rent in these times.
You can pay him after the lockdown period , even in installments (as per your mutual understanding).
My suggestion to you is to request your Landlord on humanitarian ground as explain your grievance.

You will have to pay the rent my friend because as you yourself said, govt. is discouraging rent collection but only from students or people below poverty like labourers, etc. but no such exemption is given to professionals or startups. You can of course send a legal notice stating your difficulty in paying rent but there’s no guarantee that your lordlord will agree to not take rent.
