Streedan AND Jewellery Dispute

13-Jun-2025 (In Dowry Case Law)
My sister got married in December 2022. After residing at her matrimonial home for about three months, serious disputes arose, due to which she had to return to our parental home. Since then, we have been trying to recover her streedhan and jewellery that were given to her at the time of marriage. Despite submitting all relevant jewellery bills and receipts in court, her in-laws are denying possession of any such items. They are refusing to return the jewellery, claiming they do not have it. We are extremely concerned and feel helpless. We request your guidance on how we can legally recover her streedhan and jewellery. Please advise on the best course of action.

Do seek a detailed legal Consultation from a lawyer and explore other remedies available. Legally a complaint case for criminal breach of trust can be filed in addition to the domestic violence complaint and other family Litigations like maintenance petition or a divorce petition. Do connect and seek second opinion

In this scenerio we can file an application under section 451, 457 CrPC for the custody/return of streedhan. We can also file a civil suit simmultanously for the recovery under special relief act. Under section 18 to 22 of DV Act you can seek protection, residence and return of stree dhan. If the order is also passed you can move an execution petition
