Is it possible to cancel a registered marriage

26-Apr-2023 (In Divorce Law)
Dear Sir/Madam I registered a marriage (in March 2018) for visa process before the wedding. However, as per Hindu marriage, we are not married at all. Now I came to know that she is so arrogant and she is blackmailing me like she will suicide if I won't marry her. Can someone guide me how the procedure of registration marriage cancellation works in this case?

Sir,
The Marriage registration is done only after actual marriage had taken place. You could have mentioned certain dates as the actual marraige had taken place along with witnesses to support your claim that the marriage had taken place. Hence you cannot take back the said statement and if you are trying to say that the marriage did not take place, the concerned registrar can initiate criminal prosecution under section 82 of Registration act for making false statements. So deferring from your earlier statement will be against your interest. So it is not advisable to take the stand that marriage not at all took place.

In order to defend her threat etc., you may save the documents and other audio records supporting your cliam and submit before the court of law in order to prove your innocence.

The only way to annul a marriage is to approach the concerned court and get decree cancelling the marriage. There is no other way as per the pervailing law.

The marriage can be dissolved by divorce. A writ may be filed to get the marriage to dissolve. The person is not clear about the date of Divorce. Any person can file Divorce. The dissertation is possible.

Hello Sir,
Your case is a tricky non. Registration of marriage has taken place without the actual marriage hasn't been solemnised. If both of you are Hindu, then you can seek for court for declaring the marriage as void since the Hindu customs and traditions hasn't been followed and as such your Marriage doesn't fall under Valid Marriage. If you reveal the truth that it was for getting Visa, then you'll be in trouble. You've to conceal that and seek for Divorce.
