Divorced in Canada. Can I remarry in India?

08-Sep-2023 (In Divorce Law)
Hello, I am a Permanent Resident of Canada, originally from India. In 2017, after I applied for my Canadian PR, I went to India and got married in a short time. After the marriage I realised the guy's only intention to marry was to get Canadian PR. I separated from him and came back to Canada in few months. My PR file was still in process when I came back. Once I got my PR, I filed for divorce and the court of Saskatchewan in Regina issued me the certificate of divorce. There was no response from my ex, so the court granted me the divorce. Now I have plans to get married in India this December. My question is, will I be able to legally get married again based on the divorce certificate from Canada? My ex's divorce case from the Indian court is still in process. Please advise. Do I have to cooperate with my ex to get the divorce certificate from India first before I can legally get married again?

You may need to obtain a divorce in India if you want to remarry. You can decide accordingly. According to law, a divorce decree granted by a foreign court that was based on mutual consent is valid.
