Legal action if I am scammed by an online company

18-May-2023 (In Cyber Crime Law)
An online recruiter had sourced my CV from Monster.com and had contacted me recently. He suggested some possible openings which suited my profile. He asked for a registration fee , and then subsequently some more fees for verification and placement services. These payments were made online through their web page. I had checked the company was registered from its domain name. They also sent an email confirming their services. However they went silent after that and did not respond to calls / emails. I found an alternate number from their site and contacted their office. I was told that they do not have me registered and they also do not have any such plans as was offered in the email. I suspect this recruiter to be using the online companies website perhaps fraudulently. Given the above a) Is it possible to recover the money paid legally through IT Act and IPC b) What specific information would help my case, in case I can contact this recruiter

Yes you can by lodging an FIR under grounds of cheating, fraud and inducement as well as under IT act, the complaint needs to be framed properly moreso going to police station to lodge it will be difficult because they will play double so you should file it as per court guidelines

you may complain before your local police station by ventilating your grievances along with proof of evidence that you had paid the amount to said company i, if the police will not take any steps on the basis of your complain than you my file police inaction case before court apart from that you may also file money suit for recovery the amount

Please note that before getting into any formal complaint against the online recruiter you need to be justified that paying of registration fees or paying of fees for verifying do not guarantee for any job or not. Because the online recruiter can always take the excuse that the paying of fees is their operational activities and they only forward the registered CVs to the respective clients and it the clients who shortlisted the CVs, and hopefully then they communicate the candidates. Please note that may it is not any fraud or otherwise you have invested into so footpath based recruitment companies, because any good recruitment companies do not actually money from the candidates rather they charge the clients for proving the suitable resource. Please note that may it not be viable enough to run after this recruiter rather get yourself aware of.
