No, they can't do anything, u should prepare him to file divorce against her. And if they are threatening you, then u should complaint to police, and if police is not registering FIR then you should file a case u/s 156(3) crpc. For registration of FIR.. All accused will be in Jail... No body can torture you...

From the facts given by you it seems that you are not married. Your ex lover's inlaws cannot do anything to you. Even if they have grievances against you they cannot do harm to you. If they are defaming your name I would suggest you to file a defamation case against them. If you are not having any relationship with your ex lover then you are safe.

You need to register FIR,Blackmailing amounts to Criminal intimidation, which is well defined in the Indian Penal Code Section 503 as,Whoever threatens another with any injury to his person, reputation or property, or to the person or reputation of any one in whom that person is interested, with intent to cause alarm to that person, or to cause that person to any act which he is not legally bound to do, or omit to do any act which that person is legally entitled to do, as the means of avoiding the execution of such threat, commits criminal intimidation. The offence of Criminal intimidation can be punished with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to two years, or with fine, or with both. I cant advice you much without knowing the fact . you can surely turn the table around
