University rights on my technology developed with their equipments

I am developing a new technology and the instruments required for that a being provided by my university. If in near future I decide to commercialize it, then can my university claim rights to the idea and the company that I start?

It is purely based on your contract or technology development agreement or technology know how agreement. On top of that it includes two aspects, one is confidentiality and secrecy. So you have to follow the terms and conditions of the contract, otherwise definitely it may lead in to monetary damages for violating the contract. So all depends upon the terms of the contract. if you have a copy of the contract, pls send it to me so that I can provide you a firm opinion in this regard. Thank you.

If there is any agreement between you and the university whereby you agreed to register the patents in the name of the University (similar to work for hire) then yes the university can claim right of your invention.
