Hi, I had visited a restaurant and the price for the mineral water was more than the MRP and additional GST was charged on the same. I also have the bill for the same stating the brand name and the quantity:500ml of mineral water.I want to know what should i do?

Your answers will be in two parts. First one is price of the bottled water above MRP is possible subject to the restaurant providing nice ambience and comfort. The second one is GST above MRP + Service charge. In such case they should have two stickers implemented on the bottle. First sticker showing the MRP before GST and the second sticker showing the MRP with GST. If this was not followed then you are entitled to ask the Manager. Please also remember there is a difference in the union and judiciary standpoint. Union ministry has taken a stand that charges above MRP is not valid as per Legal Metrology Act and Judiciary has a different view that restaurant can charge subject to ambience. But as a consumer you can still file a case in district consumer forum and you can claim compensation. There are many consumer cases where the form has found these practices unacceptable and have awarded compensation.
