What is the time period that one can take the matter up of a bounced cheque.

Within 30 days notice of demand u/s 138 of Negotiable Instrument is to be sent granting 15 days time for payment. In case the party fails to make payment within the stipulated time. A complaint case has to be filed with a month thereafter.

after u get receipt from the bank you have 15 days time to send notice. After receiving of notice by the accused minimum 15 days time and maximum 30 days time. sending Notice is mandatory. lump sump u have 45 days.

You can file a criminal complaint under section 138 of negotiable instrument act till the time your cheque is valid. And cheque is valid for three months from its stated date. You cam initiate the same by sending a legal notice.
