Apply for extention in high court in cheque bounce case

23-Oct-2026 (In Cheque Bounce Law)
I need to file an application in high court for extention of time for deposit of fine amount in cheque bounce. My advocate told me that after filing an application when the case will be listed for hearing we can't tell exactly because that will be decided by high court, it make take 15 to 20 days or can be done earlier also. There is no option to file urgent application in high court so that its listed in 2 or 3 days? Is there a chance that court can dismiss my case itself

You can apply for an extension of time or seek condonation of delay in a cheque bounce case by filing a formal interim application with a supporting affidavit in the High Court or Magistrate Court handling the matter

An application for extension of time to deposit the fine amount in a cheque bounce case can be listed urgently in the High Court. You do not need to wait 15–20 days; your advocate can file an Urgent Listing Application along with a Mentioning Memo before the Bench/Registrar requesting an out-of-turn hearing due to the impending deadline. Regarding dismissal: the High Court will not automatically dismiss your appeal/case simply because you sought an extension, provided you show genuine and bonafide reasons (such as financial distress or illness) for the delay. However, if the time granted by the trial court/appellate court expires without filing an extension request or without staying the operation of the order, non-compliance could lead to the revocation of your interim bail or suspension of sentence. Ensure your lawyer moves the urgent application immediately to seek interim protection.
