Remedies if the cheque given for loan repayment bounces

What should I do if the cheque gets bounced ? My friend borrowed an amount of 5lakhs from meh for which he Hav given me a check of 4lakhs to meh dated aug 2018. I have his messages in whatsapp of giving it to meh for the loan settlement. So if it gets bounced can I file a complaint ?
after bounce send a legal notice. once he refuse to comply the notice you get the right to file a case of negotiable instrument act. through court u recover the money before limitation expires.....

Yes, you can file a complaint case under N.I.Act. But first, before filing the case, you have to send him a legal notice intimating him and demanding the said sum of money.. The proceedings shall be under section 138 of the Negotiable Instrument Act
