the burden is on you to state why you issued the cheque and if you are standing as surety for third-party, there is a responsibility on you, if he present a cheque and files a case you can contest the case and also you can take necessary steps to prevent him, kindly consult any advocate and explore the options available to you.

as you have given cheque they will bounce the cheque on your name and they will file case in the court stating you had taken loan from them so better you send a legal notice to them staying you had given cheque to them for security purposes for third party loan so that in case if they file case also you will be having defence

Appoint a lawyer and handover the case to the advocate they will handle your case properly in case the person files a case. Also it's advisable to lodge a police complaint of cheating against the person who used your cheque
