Hello, how long have you been working in your current company? It entirely depends upon the employment contract & company policy, in relation to the security deposit to be taken or not in near future? Yes this is the protocol that every company follows, the person who is highly technical or any senior position in a company usually the company mandate for 2 months notice period. It depends upon you that you have to continue or switch it up to you, & I assume the cheque is not placed by your employer in bank if placed then it will be tried under 138 of Negotiable Instrument act, then the scenario will be differ then, well as per the description you provided (employer - employee cases) the jurisdiction covers under by the labour court.
