According to the prevailing rules, the right to the widow’s pension exists only as long as she remains unmarried; upon remarriage, her entitlement ends. However, the pension is not discontinued altogether—it may then be passed on to eligible children of the deceased, such as minor or disabled children, as per scheme provisions. There are some narrow exceptions for government employee family pensions, but for most social and widow pensions, remarriage leads to disqualification for the woman herself. Therefore, a woman cannot continue to avail the Maharashtra State widow pension after marrying again, but her children may become eligible beneficiaries in her place.

Sir if I deposit the cheque on 7th August 2025 .I got the dishonored message from the bank on 12 th August and received the memo by courier on 23rd August. When does my 30 days demand notice period starts and ends ?

When a cheque is dishonoured, the time limit for issuing a demand notice under Section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act begins only from the date on which the payee receives the official bank return memo, and not merely from the SMS or intimation given by the bank. In your case, although you were informed of the dishonour on 12th August 2025, the bank’s return memo was actually received by you on 23rd August 2025. Therefore, the thirty-day period for issuing a statutory demand notice has to be counted from 23rd August. If we calculate accordingly, this period runs until 21st September 2025. This means you must ensure that the legal demand notice is dispatched to the drawer on or before 21st September, otherwise the complaint under Section 138 may become time-barred.
