I am an NRI dealing with a Mumbai property dispute. My grandmother left a flat in a will to one relative (not my father). I was not informed at the time. Recently they are asking me to sign a release or they may file a case. I want to know: do I have any legal standing to challenge, is probate required in Mumbai, and do I have leverage even if the will is valid?

Hi,First, send a legal notice to the brother formally requesting the documents that he possesses. This includes rent receipts, agreement and other documents. If he does not co-operate with you even after the legal notice, we will initiate legal proceedings against the same.
