UPDATE/CORRECT AADHAAR CARD DETAILS ONLINE

Currently, the worlds largest biometric ID system, the Aadhar card system is a 12-digit unique code that is assigned to Indian residents. It plays a significant role in availing many benefits including government schemes. Its reach is likely to spread far and wide in the near future.

The Aadhaar card includes an individual's vital information like name, gender, contact number, address as well as the date of birth. Moreover, it also contains biometric data such as the fingerprint and iris scan. Aadhaar can be used as an ID or even as an address proof but it is also mandatory to avail certain benefits and subsidies from the government for ones own benefit. It, therefore, makes it a mandate to update certain information that is relevant as and when it changes due to any reason. The Aadhaar being an important document requires the Aadhaar holder to update the changes in the Central Identities Data Repository whether biometric or even demographic.

What’s best is that the updation of any relevant data can be done offline as well as offline. This has been made possible by the UIDAI. While the demographic data can be updated through both methods, the biometric data can only be updated through the offline method, i.e. at an enrolment centre.

IMPORTANT THINGS TO BE KEPT IN MIND WHILE UPDATING AADHAAR CARD DETAILS

Sometimes due to changes in the already filed details of our Aadhaar application, there are changes that are required to be made. Keeping the importance of Aadhaar Card in view, one needs to ensure that all the details are accurate and genuine. Both, at the time of applying for Aadhaar Card as well as the correction of details that needs to be done. An incorrect declaration might lead to rejection of the application thereby forcing you to perform the process again to submit the correct details.

Some pointers that are needed to be kept in mind during operation are listed below:

  • One must declare correct details like Name, Date of Birth, Address, etc in the specified field of the application form.

  • One can opt to fill the details in the local language or in English as well.

  • The supporting documents have to be provided as per the requirement to support the information that is requested to be changed by the applicant.

  • One should ensure the URN number is made available for future reference to check the status of updating.

  • One should make sure to not skip the mandatory fields in the application as it may pose a problem later on.

  • Next, the updated Aadhaar Card will be delivered at the address mentioned in the application. It should again be kept in mind that the address needs to be authentic.

WHY DOES THE REQUEST FOR AADHAAR CARD UPDATE / CORRECTION GET REJECTED

There could be multiple reasons as to why your request gets rejected.

  • Typically, any of the documents submitted include any erroneous or inconsistent data then Aadhaar update request or enrollment is likely to be rejected. For example, if one submits the relevant documents with spelling mistakes, or different DOBs, etc. it might lead to cancellation of the update/enrollment request. Since the document verification happens at the back-end and they have access tp historical data of the updates made by an individual, it helps them to verify and perform validation checks. It is thus necessary to keep all documents consistent (address could be different provided there is relevant proof). Consistency ensures that all data is authentic and not incorrect at any front.

  • Another incident wherein the Aadhaar might be canceled is when they receive incorrect biometric data. It may have been that during enrollment/update your biometrics were not fed properly to the system, the system agent shows the inaccuracy of the biometrics captured at the point of enrollment/update. The operator will then immediately ask you to feed the biometric data again.
