Possible to change wording of Divorce Certificate? how to modify it

20-May-2023 (In Family Law)
Hi, My Divorce Certificate mentions "Harassment" by groom as a Reason for the Divorce. Can I get it corrected/ modified? or can I get another official certificate from Government/ Court confirming my Divorce with ex-wife? My wife and I settled all matters (financial etc) outside the court between both parties. Her lawyer put up a reason "Harassment" for the break up. Though we objected it but the lawyer said that is the process to get Divorce quickly and told us not to go to Court so that we would be issued Divorce Certificate. We didn't go to court, divorce issued. There are two other agreement papers which confirm financial settlement and mutual consent etc but the problem is - the main Divorce Certificate says "Harassment" by groom as one of the reason to issue the Divorce. There was no harassment, it was by mutual consent. Can I get it corrected/ modified? or can I get another official certificate Court confirming my Divorce with ex-wife without the word Harassment? Thank you

Hi
If the divorce was granted under Section 13 B of Hindu marriage act, it is by mutual consent only.
The grounds sought by the petitioner is Harassment.
you can apply to the court for modification of order.

Here who issued divorce certificate you have not mentioned in your query. It seems that you had not applied for mutual divorce in a regular court. Any way if your spouse comes forward for mutual divorce in a regular court then apply before a regular court.

Hello,

No. You cannot correct or change the wordings of the divorce decree granted by a competent Family Court. It is illegal. You should have appeared before the Family Court to rebut the allegations of your wife and should have contested the case properly. Now if you are not happy with the divorce, file an appeal in the High Court against the decree of the Family Court.

Dear Client,
It is a bad practice on the part of the advocate to file a divorce on the ground of Harassment by groom when both parties cooperate for divorce. You must see all grounds before signing and paying settlement amount. Whether amount paid to divorced wife. If so she will not cooperate you for getting the divorce ground get altered. I think it is an exparte divorce decree. It may be set aside by you and get amended by putting correct facts and grounds by moving the matter before Lok Adalat. If the opposite side will not cooperate it is not possible.
