Acquisition of Indian citizenship is governed by the Citizenship Act, 1955. Under the act, a person can apply for citizenship by naturalisation where the person firstly needs to show that he/she has been ordinarily resident in India or has been serving the Indian government for a period of 12 years. Apart from the said condition, there are certain other qualifications required which are prescribed under the Act. In order to proceed with acquiring Indian citizenship, you need make an application to the Central Government (in this case, the Foreignors' Division, Ministry of Home Affairs) in Form VIII along with supporting documents such as your Afghanistan passport, copy of residential permit or document confirming your refugee status, character certificates amongst other things. If you wish to proceed with the same, do contact me. We can work out the required documents and fulfill the procedure. Regards
