What does the law state with regard to division of property acquired by a couple during the course of their marriage at the time of separation even if the wife was not a major money earner in the family? Is she eligible for a share of the property even if she was unemployed and not a money earner?

Ans: the wife is equal sharer of the property whether earned by husband alone or together acquired.

No, she is entitled for only alimony. How can spouse expect a share in the earnings of his/her spouse. They are entitled for what they earned individually. Better claim for maintenance or one time alimony.

in your problem you have informed that the" property acquired by the couple" . Both have equal right over property. The quantum of contribution on the purchasing of the property cannot take away the rights over the property. She is having equal right over the property.
But here you can take little advantage on the portion of the contribution over the property only.
