Is taking alcohol in train legal

i want to bring hard liquor(whisky,vodka,rum) from Pondicherry to Chennai(Tamil Nadu) by train.is it legal to do that? if yes then what amount per person.

You can carry opened liquor bottles. For this you need not pay any taxes.
you can take 'n' number of bottles which is open and partly consumed. Police will leave you as they wont be of much use. Because there are some shopkeepers who inform the police, police will collect the unopened bottles and send you off. They return it to the shopkeeper and collect half the money.
