Can I file a suit for defamation if editor publishes apology

I have issued legal notice to the newspaper editor for publishing defamatory article in his news paper. My advocate has issued notice to publish apology. If the editor prints apology, can I still file a defamation case for damaging my image in the society?
Where you have sent a legal notice demanding apology from the editor, if the editor publishes an apology within the stipulated time then you cannot file a defamatory suit against the editor of the newspaper. If the editor fails to publish apology letter in the newspaper, then you can initiate a defamatory suit.
