What are the fees typically charged by a Supreme Court advocate for filing a contempt petition and litigating a contempt case? I'm interested in the minimum fees and standard charges of a Supreme Court lawyer.

There is no statutory minimum or separate 'fixed-fee for filing/litigating a contempt petition in the Supreme Court; contempt petitions attract no court-fee (Rules to Regulate Proceedings for Contempt of the Supreme Court, 1975, rule 4(d) [https://indiankanoon.org/doc/187467351/]) and advocates-professional fees in the Supreme Court are governed generally by the Second Schedule of the Supreme Court Rules (indicative scales) and by the Rules on taxation between advocate and client (so fees are contractual, can be taxed and the Taxing Officer/Chamber Judge can fix/reduce them) [Supreme Court Rules, Second Schedule and taxation provisions; see https://indiankanoon.org/doc/45279932/]. Practically, market rates vary widely: typical AOR/filing charges and drafting fees in Supreme Court practice quoted in practitioner summaries range (AOR/filing '15,000"25,000; junior drafting '5,500"12,000; leading-counsel appearance/daily hearing fees per the Second Schedule and market practice often '15,000"1,00,000+ depending on seniority and complexity) [Supreme Court Rules fee table: https://www.prashantkanha.com/the-supreme-court-rules-2013/ ; market survey: https://lawsikho.com/blog/rewards-of-becoming-an-aor-advocate-on-record/ ]. The Court may nonetheless award or tax costs in contempt proceedings 'including orders as to costs-recoverable as if a decree (Contempt Rules, rule 14) [https://indiankanoon.org/doc/187467351/].

Supreme Court advocate fees in India vary greatly depending on the advocate's seniority, reputation, and the complexity of the case. Top senior advocates such as Harish Salve, Kapil Sibal, and Abhishek Manu Singhvi are known to charge between Rs 11 lakh to Rs15 lakh per appearance, particularly on key hearing days like Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. These high fees reflect not only their experience but also the demand for their time in high-profile or constitutionally significant matters. Other senior advocates may charge between Rs 2 lakh to Rs 5 lakh per hearing, while Advocates-on-Record (AORs) and junior lawyers generally have lower fee structures, ranging from Rs 25,000 to Rs 1 lakh, depending on the service, be it drafting, filing, or appearances. Fees can be structured per hearing or as a lump sum for the entire case. Additional charges may apply for consultation, documentation, and court-related expenses. Ultimately, costs depend on the advocate's stature and the legal intricacies of the case.

There is no certain fee of any lawyer anywhere. It depends on who you engage. It may range from a few thousands to lacs, only that it has to be a fee that could be accounted for income tax. Also, you should look for a competent Supreme Court lawyer who charges you reasonably also, but moreso, is competent to handle your matter.

Most lawyers charge fees depending on the complexity of the matter. There is no fixed fees slab. Supreme Court advocates fees is typically higher than other courts though. You will have to engage an Advocate on Record to proceed with filing in Supreme Court.
