Propert sell/transfer if owner is in jail

20-May-2023 (In Property Law)
My blood relative is accused in a criminal case and he is currently in jail. We are currently working to get bail for him, but it may take time. Some lawyers and family friends are giving him hopes that they can make case go away if he can promise to pay big amount of money. I am the only next of kin. I want to know if he can sell or transfer his property to me to safeguard it, while he is in jail. Or if he can transfer or sell it to anyone else.

If he wants to sell, he must obtain permission from the court and sign a power-of-attorney. If he died in prison the property would go to his heirs. He can. You can do this by getting the draft ready, having it signed and notarized.
