I need rent receipts but owner and the flatmate are denying it.

29-Nov-2023 (In Property Law)
I did not have an agreement with the landlord, I was paying the rent to my room mate who had an agreement with the owner which expired 2 years back. I joined the flat 5 months back. All three of us used to send the rent to one of the flatmates who used to send it to the Owner. I need rent receipts for tax benefits but both the owner as well as the flatmate are denying it. What options do I have?

This is my response to you:
1. You can send a legal notice;
2. It is not possible that you did not enter into a single document or a written contract or an MOU?
3. You can also approach rent controller authority with a formal complaint;
4. Consult a local lawyer and take steps.
