Man asking for huge compensation after his car got hit by mine

My husband is learning car driving. When he took a turn near our house he accidently hit a car that was parked outside the house and it got scratches and side mirror gone. We told we will do the repair and giv but that car owner is asking for a huge amount. Already we have paid 6k for the mirror now again he is asking around 15000. But we dont have that much amount. What can be done?
