Want to reduce the risk of a legal action as left the organisation
03-Jun-2023 (In Medical Negligence Law)
I am a psychologist (trainee) at my university and as part of my training, I see outpatients at the university clinic. I have to end my work with my patients due to end of my tenure soon. I have a patient who may be potentially at risk to act upon suicidal thoughts since he does not adhere to treatment frequently. I tried calling his family contact number but it does not work. He is stable now but the tables may turn in a few months if he does not adhere to treatment. How can I reduce my exposure to any legal risk arising out of his actions in the future e.g. 3-6 months? Can I make him sign a release form?
Hi, what action you can take to reduce your futute possible liability depends on the set up of your organisation and the procedures followed by the organisation while treating such patients. A release form may not be the best idea but I am sure we can think of other possible solutions if we discuss your situation in detail.

If your patient isn’t following the treatment it is not your fault. You cannot be booked under medical negligence in this case. But for precaution you can have everything in writing. The medications, treatment etc and you can keep a record of everything. Plz contact me for further assistance
